BCPC Congress 2024 – Day One Highlights

8th August 2024

BCPC Congress 26-27 November 2024, Cedar Court Hotel, Harrogate.
Discover the latest impact of the UK’s Sustainable Farming Incentive

The morning session of day one at the BCPC Congress is packed with insightful presentations and discussions focusing on balancing environment and human health protection with food production.

This year’s Congress is examining how domestic agricultural policy, particularly the Government’s Sustainable Farming Incentive, is shaping food production in the UK and impacting pesticide regulation. The policy offers options to take land out of food production to boost biodiversity, soil health, and mitigate climate change effects.

We are excited to introduce our impressive line-up of speakers who will be joining us on our first day. These industry leaders and experts will share their knowledge on a wide range of topics related to issues on crop production and sustainability.

Professor Jules Pretty (Professor of Environment & Society, University of Essex) will give an overview of sustainability in agriculture, looking at multipurpose agricultural systems that have positive side effects.

Dr Alistair Leake (Director of Policy at the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust) will discuss the new Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS) and the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) in England, examining the effects on wildlife and sustainable crop production.

David Exwood’s (Deputy President, NFU) presentation, Yield is Still King – How to do it Sustainably, will look at current production levels of food in the UK and investigate how to increase production levels sustainably alongside all the other needs of land in the UK.

David Bench (Chief Executive, CropLife UK) will present his view on what the government should be concentrating on in relation to sustainability and the future of plant protection product regulations.
